Teaching Kids How to Sort and Declutter

Want to teach your child how to organize? Even a small child can learn! When you're helping him clean his room, ask him how he would sort things - which things are alike, which belong together - a fun game!

Remember, your child may not see things the same way you see them, so be prepared for some creativity! There is not always just one way to sort.

As your child sorts, you may notice some items she has outgrown. Start early teaching your child the value of giving to others. Have her think about a younger child who might enjoy her outgrown toys or clothes. Talk about how a less fortunate child might need such things.

Some books to reinforce your organizing lessons:

The Berenstain Bears and the Messy Room
The Berenstain Bears Think of Those in Need
Messy Bessy by Patricia McKissack

These are available on Amazon
